You will receive the guest pass at packet pick-up on November 14, 2008 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Virginia Beach United Methodist Church located at 212 19th Street, Virginia Beach - just two blocks from Interstate 264. If you are unable to attend packet pickup, contact team@kalerunning.com.
Timing - Chip Timing
- Each athlete will wear a 'chip' that transmits data to the receiving antenna when the athlete crosses a timing mat. Kale Running will utilize the ChampionChip Timing system to score the both events. Do not cross the timing mats while you are wearing your chip unless it is during the race.
- Athletes will pick up their timing chip on race day at the football field. Athletes must present their race numbers to receive the timing chips. Participants who have their own Champion Chip may use the chip at the race. It is imperative that you indicate your chip # on your race application.
- Athletes will be given a 'hospital band' to strap the chip on. The Duathlon Relay teams will use velcro straps to assist in a smooth exchange. The 10 Milers may secure the chip to their shoe laces while Duathletes should place the band around their ankle. Athletes are required to wear the chip during the entire race. If you do not have the chip on when you cross the finish line you are not guaranteed a finish time.
- The chips must be turned in at the end of the race. Volunteers will be at the finish line to help with removal. Participants will be charged $35 for unreturned chips. If you still have the rental chip after you have left the race site, please forward the timing chip to Kale Running, at 1211 Buckingham Ave, Norfolk, VA 23508. Chips will be scanned in after the race and participants will be billed $35 for unreturned chips.

Depending on the weather, the awards ceremony will be outside the Fort Story Bowling Alley on the grass or inside the recreation center which is located next to the bowling alley.

Duathlon Race Information
Rules
All USA Triathlon Rules will be strictly enforced. It is the responsibility of each athlete to be familiar with those rules. Click here to learn about the most commonly violated USAT rules. Drafting is not permitted and will be monitored. The bicycle helmets must be ANSI or Snell approved and worn at all times on the bike. No outside assistance is permitted at any time during the race. You must walk or run your bike in and out of the transition area. There will be a dismount zone clearly marked outside of the transition. If athletes fail to dismount their bikes prior to the end of the zone, they will be penalized. Headphones, headsets, etc. are not permitted. During the run portion, athletes are required to war race numbers at all times. Numbers must face the front and be clearly visible at all times. Numbers may not be cut or folded or altered in any way. Non-USAT athletes are required to purchase a one day permit. These athletes must send an additional $10.00 with the entrant fee and filling out a USA Triathlon one-day permit form at packet pick-up. To access USA Triathlon Rules click here. Portions of the bike route will be closed to traffic and other portions will not; therefore, athletes must obey traffic laws. (Shore Drive will be closed to traffic. Bikers will share the road with traffic on all other roads of the bike route.)
Transition Area
The transition area will open at 6:30 a.m. Do not cross the timing mats while you are wearing your chip unless it is during the race. Prior to the start of the race all the receivers at the mats must be cleared and prepped for the race. Inadvertent recordings of chips after this time will affect the accuracy of the results. After the race, chip owners must not cross the mats when returning to the transition area.
Time & Time Limits
| Race | Starting Time |
|---|---|
| 10 Miler | 8:30 a.m. |
| Duathlon | 9:00 a.m.. |
| 5k | Immediately after Duathlon Start |

Duathlon Team Competition
The relay exchange will take place at the bike rack of the relay team's number. The exchange/tag between team members will be done by transferring the timing chip. The bike must be racked and the helmet on the bike when the runner makes the chip exchange for the biker to start. For the second exchange, the biker must have the bike racked in the designated spot before transferring the chip to the runner to start the second run.
